Student scientists William and
Nimet record test data after
doing stem cell research.
Jayla and Amber examine the
heart to locate the arteries that
supply blood to the body.
The heart pumps about 5
quarts of blood each minute
throughout the body.
The Body’s Vital Organ
Cardiovascular disease is one of the world’s most common and deadly illnesses. According to the
World Health Organization, nearly 16.7 million deaths a year occur worldwide due to cardiovascular
disease and 80% of these deaths occur in low and middle income countries. To curb this negative
trend, researchers and physicians are working together to come up with ways to use regenerative
medicine to treat patients with the most acute cases of cardiovascular disease.
In this episode of Young Xplorers, the biotechnology team demonstrates how stem cell science can
be used to regenerate animal tissue. They also show Keith Young Sr., the founder of Ecotek Lab,
how exercise and proper diet can combat heart disease. Click on video icon to play video
